Motherboard for HP Desktop?

Well, replacing the motherboard means that you have to re-install windows, which means, you have to wipe out your entire hard drive. Regardless of the motherboard type. Im currently building my own PC rig and tried to use the same SATA Hard Drive but requires me to re-format it, there is a way to keep it but one mess up during re-formatting will results in complete loss of memory.
